The river zip line is getting closer!

The River Zip Line is getting closer to reality as the new designs are finalized.  The SandRidge Sky Trail, Rumble Drop, and Sky Slide have been extremely popular over the summer since their debut and there have been many questions about the status of the zip line across the river.  The engineering of the zip line experience proved to be challenging with many obstacles on the south bank of the river (and underground) and complications of getting back to the north bank.  We decided to take another approach and have come up with a much more exciting experience that will be truly thrilling and unique to OKC - while complementing the iconic architecture that has become a signature of the Boathouse District.

From the top of the 80 foot SandRidge Sky Trail, guests will have the option of taking the fast Sky Slide (the slide run out has recently been extended to accommodate fast slide mats) to the bottom, step off the Rumble Drop for an 70 foot free fall, or zip from southeast corner of the tower over the river for a fast 700 foot ride to a tower on the south bank of the river.  Guests will then climb higher on the south tower and take a second zip across the river again (with a great view of downtown) to a landing platform on the north bank adjacent to the future SandRidge Youth Pavilion. The majority of the new south tower has been fabricated by Ropes Courses Inc and is currently in Michigan.  The zip line will utilize Zip Stop technology to enhance the experience and the speed of the zip for a very safe and smooth ride.  With the new MAPS 3 river stadium lights complete, the night zip line experiences will also be possible and truly spectacular - adding another unique element to the world class adventure attractions and boathouses of the Boathouse District (and future whitewater center).  The schedule for construction and opening will be announced soon.

CanAmMex Regatta Announced for OKC!

Just one week after the MAPS 3 Oklahoma River stadium lights turn on (planned of June 29th as part of the Stars and Stripes River Festival), OKC will host an exciting international event!

Oklahoma City to Host 2013 CanAmMex Regatta

April 09, 2013
PRINCETON, N.J. – The United States will play host to the 2013 CanAmMex Regatta, which takes place July 7-14 at the Oklahoma City High Performance Center in Oklahoma City, Okla. The event brings together junior competitors from the United States, Canada and Mexico.

“The regatta serves two purposes,” said USRowing Director of Development Steve Hargis. “It brings together each country’s developmental junior athletes, coxswains and coaches for friendly, yet high-level competition. Secondly, this regatta provides a life opportunity for its participants and serves as a cultural experience. For many, CanAmMex will be an important step in development toward potential future U.S. Junior National Team, Under 23 and Senior National Team opportunities.

“I am very excited about this opportunity to train and race at a recognized world-class venue,” said Hargis. “I look forward to seeing the athletes in action with the great spirit and sportsmanship that defines CanAmMex.”

“We’re pleased once again to welcome this prestigious international event to the Boathouse District and Oklahoma City National High Performance Center,” said OKC Boathouse Foundation Executive Director Mike Knopp. “As the site for the 2008 event, we’ve seen the positive impact this regatta has on the athletes who participate and look forward to seeing the top youth in North America race on the Oklahoma River.”

Racing will be contested in twelve events including the men’s and women’s single sculls, double sculls, pair, quadruple sculls, four with coxswain and eight.

Last year’s event took place in Mexico City, Mexico. Click here for complete results.

Coming Soon!

The SandRidge Sky Slide is under construction in Germany and will be the tallest dry slide in America!  The SandRidge Sky Slide will be installed in May.  The slide is designed by Wiegand, the world's leading specialty slide manufacturer.  www.wiegandslide.com/children-slides.html
The rider will enter a secure platform connected to the top level of the Sky Trail where they will transfer from their harness and onto a custom slide mat.  Riders will reach speeds of up to 22mph during the 80 foot spiral decent.  The entire slide, except for the runout at the end, is fully enclosed with a translucent cover.
The Compass Rose sculpture will be installed in a traffic circle now under construction in the Boathouse District across from the new Youth Zone.  The sculpture is a gift to the city from Leadership OKC in commemoration of their 25th anniversary.  It will be installed in June.

Lighting for the SandRidge Sky Trail, Base Jump, and Sky Slide will be installed to allow for a dramatic night time presence in the Boathouse District - and for exciting adventures under the stars (and the best views of Downtown OKC at night)

This is a view of the future Base Jump "PowerFan" landing platform.  This will be installed in May. Guests will leap from the top of the SandRidge Sky Trail for a thrilling 80 foot free fall to this landing platform - a one of a kind experience for OKC!
